The 2024 SFWA Annual Spring Tour was held on May 31 and June 1 in the Saskatoon, Rosthern, Blaine Lake and Waldheim area. We had to contend with a crazy strong wind most of the day but we managed. We had 12 members registered for the tour.
On Friday night the group visited Cohen’s Restaurant on 20th Street in Saskatoon for a meal and networking.
On Saturday we boarded a 15 passenger van and headed out from the Saskatoon Inn bright and early.
We travelled to see Carla Borsa’s commercial cattle and sheep operation outside of Waldheim.
We also traveled to Rosthern to meet up with Matt Enns and tour the Maker’s Malt facility. We stopped at Betty’s Diner at Blaine Lake for lunch and from there headed to the Doukhobor Dugout House historical site. Brenda Cheveldayoff and Elder Jeanette Stringer provided a guided tour of the pioneer dugout houses. We pulled the Doukhobor plough and were treated to their amazing Doukhobor bread. Our final stop was at Twin Peaks Creamery for a delicious ice cream treat north of Saskatoon near Warman.
It was great to travel together. This tour was well received.
Thanks for organizing this tour Lisa, Becky and Neil!
Looking forward to next year!
