Humboldt
Becky Zimmer grew up on a farm on the Saskatchewan prairies. The youngest of five siblings, she always loved helping her dad on their pig and grain farm. From the age of four, Becky remembers wanting to do nothing else but writing and reading.
Now a journalist, Becky enjoys photography, volunteering, and covering local events in her rural community not far from where she grew up. Covering agriculture for the last eight years, Becky has written about provincial and national government policy changes, mental health among producers, international commodity markets, and agricultural innovations. As a former web editor, she loved discussing the writing and editing process with her co-workers.
Becky has traveled extensively throughout Canada and took her first trip to Europe in the summer of 2022 through the IFAJ Young Leaders program with help from the SFWA. In January 2022, she joined the SWFA board as a member at large as well as the CFWF planning committee for the 2023 IFAJ Congress in Alberta and is always looking for new opportunities to work behind the scenes within the farm writers community.
Becky wants to continue traveling the world with her laptop and camera doing nothing else but exploring and writing about the world. Becky lives in Humboldt, Sask. with her wonderful husband, her dog and cat. She is currently a freelance journalist and loves writing fiction and listening to Broadway musicals while long distance cycling and gardening in her spare time.
